A Single-Product Inventory Model for Multiple Demand Classes
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider a single-product inventory system that serves multiple demand classes, which differ in their shortage costs or service level requirements. We assume a critical-level control policy, and show the equivalence between this inventory system and a serial inventory system. Based on this equivalence, we develop a model for cost evaluation and optimization, under the assumptions of Poisson demand, deterministic replenishment lead-time, and a continuous–review (Q, R) policy with rationing. We propose a computationally-efficient heuristic and develop a bound on its performance. We provide a numerical experiment to show the effectiveness of the heuristic and the value from a rationing policy. Finally, we describe how to extend the model to permit service times, and to embed within a multi-echelon setting. 1 This research has been supported in part by the MIT Leaders for Manufacturing Program, a partnership between MIT and global manufacturing firms; and by the Singapore-MIT Alliance, an engineering education and research collaboration among the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, and MIT. 2 Sawyer School of Management, Suffolk University, Boston MA, 02108-2770, [email protected] 3 Leaders for Manufacturing Program and A. Facility Make-to-stock Systems
We consider the problem of allocating demand arising from multiple products to multiple production facilities with finite capacity and load-dependent lead-times. Production facilities can choose to manufacture items either to-stock or to-order. Products vary in their demand rates, holding and backordering costs, and service level requirements. We develop models and solution procedures to determ...
متن کاملA forecasting system by considering product reliability, POQ policy, and periodic demand
This paper presents an economic production quantity (EPQ) model with a periodic order quantity (POQ) policy, product reliability and periodic demand. The machine reliability has decreased over time; therefore, the rates of perfect and defective products reduce and increase over time, respectively. A fixed percentage of these products are reworked while the rest is wasted. Some equipment in thei...

متن کاملA parameter-tuned genetic algorithm for vendor managed inventory model for a case single-vendor single-retailer with multi-product and multi-constraint
This paper develops a single-vendor single-retailer supply chain for multi-product. The proposed model is based on Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) approach and vendor uses the retailer's data for better decision making. Number of orders and available capital are the constraints of the model. In this system, shortages are backordered; therefore, the vendor’s warehouse capacity is another limitati...
متن کاملBi-product inventory planning in a three-echelon supply chain with backordering, Poisson demand, and limited warehouse space
In this paper, we apply continuous review (S-1, S) policy for inventory control in a three-echelon supply chain (SC) including r identical retailers, a central warehouse with limited storage space, and two independent manufacturing plants which offer two kinds of product to the customer. The warehouse of the model follows (M/M/1) queue model where customer demands follow a Poisson probabilit...
